Every day I meet a sea of people who come to see me where I work. All of them looking for what they’d like to eat for dinner that night. It amazes me that despite the wonderful heritage of great food the United States has, just how many of us would rather opt for quick and easy over something that might take a little longer and actually satisfy our body’s need for nutrition. Spaghetti sauce is a great example. Everyone I meet has their favorite; Some like Prego, some like Ragu, others try to think a little more and pick Paul Newman. Now I’m not arguing on the ease of opening a jar, I will tell you that most of the jarred sauces on the shelf are full of salt, and preservatives that make me put them back. Why feed this to my loved ones when with just a smidgen of effort, you can have your own, from scratch creation that is not only chocked full of vitamins, but will have your family craving it often. AND its almost as easy.
This is the same with our walk with God. How often do we peruse Facebook or other social media for our daily inspiration? Yes, there are some very nice posts, some even have scripture in them. But how much better for your poor little soul is a good dose of actual Bible reading and meditation with God? It will feel awkward at first, but if you give it a little effort, you’ll actually crave your “quiet time.” Start with just one minute… God is capable of meeting you in that short time frame. Really, he is! He loves you that much.
I’d like to know what happens. I’ll be praying for you. Let’s set aside the quick and easy, and dig into a real relationship with the Real Deal. And next time I’m here I’ll give you a recipe.
Grace and Peace
Liz
